Description:

The Reichsfuhrung-SS or SS Supreme Command was established shortly after the SS became independent from the SA in July 1934. The Reichsfuhrung-SS consisted of two main staffs: the Kommandostab RfSS (Executive Staff of Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler's Headquarters) and the Personlicher Stab RfSS (Personal staff of Reichsfuhrer-SS Heinrich Himmler). The Reichsfuhrung-SS was responsible for the daily regulating, coordinating and administration of all branches of the SS. In May 1940 the Reichsfuhrung-SS service uniform had an identifying cuff title worn on the lower left sleeve, like this white service tunic example. This tunic is attributed to Max Amann. During WWI Amann was Adolf Hitler’s Company Sergeant. Hitler selected Amann as the business manager of the Nazi Party when it was formed in 1921 and he would later led the Nazis' publishing house, Eher Verlag. Amann held party card number 3 and Hitler’s NSDAP party card number 1. Under Amann’s direction the Eher Verlag published important and infamous works of the Nazi regime including Hitler’s MEIN KEMPF. Hitler’s book was originally entitled FOUR AND A HALF YEARS OF STRUGGLE AGINST LIES, STUPIDITY AND COWARDICE until Amann persuaded him to retitle the work MEIN KAMPF. Hitler highly praised Amann in MEIN KAMF and credited Amman for with the initial success of the formation of the Nazi Party. Amann later became an SS-Obergruppenfuhrer on Himmler’s personal staff until the end of the war and was number 11 in order of importance. After the war Amann was sentenced to ten years in prison in 1948 but was released in 1953. Amann died in poverty in 1957. The collar of the tunic has silver piping and SS-Gruppenfuhrer rank insignia. The right shoulder has the correct shoulder board worn by ranks of SS-Oberfuhrer through SS-Obergruppenfuhrer. The left shoulder does not have provisions for a shoulder board. The left sleeve has a typical SS armband and a Reichsfuhrung cuff title embroidered in Latin script with SS runes in silver/aluminum wire threads. The cuff title also has silver/aluminum wire thread boarder at the top and bottom. The left sleeve has a second cuff title worn by the Reichsfuhrer-SS, Hauptamtchefs, Amtchefs and several others. The right sleeve has an honor chevron. A row of service ribbons are above the left breast pocket. The left breast pocket has a Adolf Hitler 1933 pin marked "GES. GESCH." on the back, 1939 pattern iron cross, wounded badge and War Merit Cross with swords. The tunic also has a silver cord and a dress brocade belt featuring a "SS" runes pattern. The tunic is lined in white silk. The inside left breast pocket has an Ausgeh-Jacke Weiss label, size 34. The white long sleeve dress shirt is made in Malaysia and is obviously not original to the tunic. The black tie has a Nazi party pin marked "M1/100" on the back. The correct white visor has black and white piping and black velvet band with Totenkopf skull and Eagle insignia. The inside of the visor has a Formfest label with an RZM size 52 label behind the sweat band. Accompanying the visor is a letter of authenticity for T. Braun, expert for German Imperial and Third Reich uniforms, hats and medals, of Western Germany, stating that “we have no reason to doubt the authenticity of the hat.” Included is a WWII Amann family photo album.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The tunic shows some very minor wear and aging, more prevalent on the silk lining. The visor shows a few small stains and the metal stiffener has been removed. We cannot authenticate this uniform, so we suggest that prospective buyer seek an expert prior to bidding.
